Stampin’ Up Cottage Rose Birthday Card for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

I’m thrilled to be joining my very first Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop! I’m sure you’re going to see some stunning creations for today’s Hop so be sure to check them all out!

We have a color challenge for today’s Hop. The challenge is to use Basic Black, Basic White and one other color of our choice.

I love working with classic black and white and to add one more color to the mix is an added bonus. I couldn’t help but choose Polished Pink. I just love the pop of color that this provides. To create my card for today I went with the Cottage Rose Bundle which includes the Cottage Rose Stamp Set and Cottage Flowers Dies. I also added in some Black & White Designs 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper. It’s black and white after all…perfect for today’s challenge! I used the Happiness Abounds Stamp Set for the sentiments.

I started off by adhering a piece of polka dot Black & White Designs 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper to a Polished Pink mat. I then used a length of Polished Pink Open Weave Ribbon and wrapped the ribbon around the DSP/Mat unit about 1/3 of the way down from the top of the panel and secured the ends onto the back. This unit was then adhered to a card base in Basic Black.

I pulled out my white craft ink pad and stamped the leaf image from the Cottage Rose Stamp Set twice onto Basic Black cardstock. I used Tuxedo Black ink to Stamp the medium sized flower and the group of three small flowers onto Basic White cardstock and colored them in using Polished Pink Stampin’ Blends. An additional open flower was also cut from Basic Black cardstock and two circles were die cut using the Layering Circles Dies – a white plain circle and a larger scalloped circle.

When cutting out the stamped flowers, I used the large die from the Cottage Flowers Dies set as shown below.

The white circle was adhered to the black circle. I then dry fit the floral pieces onto these circles and when I was happy with the arrangement, I adhered the pieces to the white circle using multipurpose liquid glue, with the exception of the large flower and one medium flower. These were adhered to the circle using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The arrangement was then adhered to the card front, over the ribbon, using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

A 5/8″ x 4-1/8″ Basic Black strip was used for the sentiment label. I used my Stamparatus to stamp the sentiment “happy birthday” in white craft ink. The Stamparatus allowed me to get a nice clear image of the stamped sentiment. A mat in Polished Pink was added to the sentiment label. The sentiment was adhered to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals and was placed below the circle flower arrangement.

An additional sentiment from the Happiness Abounds Stamp Set was stamped on the inside panel along with the three-flower image. The flowers were colored in, and the panel was adhered to a Polished Pink mat then this unit was adhered to the inside of the card.

To finish off the card, I stamped the same three-flower image onto the envelope front and adhered a piece of the polka dot Black & White Designs 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper to the envelope flap then cut around the flap to finish off the envelope. Three Matte Black Dots were added to the front of the card and placed on the white circle around the flowers.

This completes the card for today! I hope you like it! If you’d like to recreate this card all of the products used are listed further down the page.
