Stampin’ Up! Spotlight on Nature Thank You Swing Card

I absolutely am in love with the Spotlight on Nature Stamp Set and Spotlight on Nature Dies for their beautiful images and lovely die cut circles! The lovely small print floral and polka dot print used on the card is from the To Market 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper. Today’s card is a swing card. This card is created by cutting a half circle on the front panel of the card base so that when the card is opened, the circle “swings” open to reveal the inner circle! So fun!

I have entered this card in the Tic Tac Toe Challenge #249, #TTTC249. My card fits the challenge for the bottom row across, the first column on the diagonal and the last column on the diagonal.

I have also entered this card in the Anything Goes with a Fun Fold for Creative Creases Challenge #84.

I started off with a Pumpkin Pie card base measuring 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″. The cardstock is then scored at 2-1/8″ and 4-1/4″. The 2-1/8″ scoreline is a mountain fold and the 4-1/4″ scoreline is a valley fold. With the card base fully open, I adhered panels of the small floral print from the To Market Designer Series Paper to the three panels. The 2-1/8″ wide panel on the left is only adhered at the top, left and bottom so that the die cut portion of the panel can be removed once cut.

Using the second from the largest dashed line die from the Spotlight on Nature Dies, I determined and marked the top and bottom of the center points on the die. The center points of the die were lined up with the 2-1/8″ scoreline and taped into place using Post It Tape. The tape helps the die from shifting when die cutting the half circle. The card base with the die in place was laid on top of Plate #1, Plate #2 and Plate #3 of my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. The second Plate #3 was lined up so that the edge of the plate was lined up with the 2-1/8″ scoreline. While carefully holding this top Plate #3 in place over the scoreline, I ran the card through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. The results is a half-circle cut.

Using the second from largest dashed-line circle die, I die cut an additional white circle and a circle from the dotted print designer series paper (this is the reverse of the floral print design used on the card panels). The floral image from the Spotlight on Nature Stamp Set was partially stamped in Granny Apple Green onto the white circle. The stamped circle was then adhered to the swing circle portion of the card front. I was careful to line up the dashed line cut outs of the white circle with the Pumpkin Pie half circle. The butterfly image was stamped onto a scrap piece of white cardstock in Blackberry Bliss cardstock then colored in using Peach Pie and Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blends. The butterfly was fussy cut using a pair of paper snips then adhered to the white circle on the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The dotted print designer series paper die cut circle was adhered to the back side of the swing circle. Again, I made sure the dotted line cut outs were lined up. A smaller circle was die cut from white card stock and the “Thanks” sentiment was stamped in Blackberry Bliss ink. This circle was adhered to the inside swing portion of the card – right in the center of the dotted print circle.

I cut an additional circle from white cardstock using the largest three-leaf detailed circle die from the Spotlight on Nature Dies. The floral image was partially stamped in Granny Apple Green ink on the left side of the circle. This circle was then adhered to the large inside panel and was centered from top to bottom and left to right.

To finish up the card I adhered a small Silver & White Sheer Ribbon bow to the top left of the card front using a Mini Glue Dot. Three light green Transparent Adhesive-Backed Dots were adhered to the white swing circle on the card front. A coordinating piece of designer series paper was adhered to the envelope flap and I used a pair of paper snips to trim the excess paper away from the flap. Lastly, I partially stamped the floral image onto the envelope front in Granny Apple Green ink.

What a pretty presentation for a card! The swing card might seem a little daunting but it is actually quite easy. The trick is making sure your die is centered over the scoreline and the edge of the top cutting Plate #3 is along the scoreline.
