Stampin’ Up! Country Birdhouse All Occasion Z Fold Easel Card

This Z Fold Easel Card was created using the Country Birdhouse Bundle and the Country Woods 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper.  Credit goes out to Stamptastic Designs for the fold idea, although I did change up the measurements a bit for the inside portion of the card.  The Z Fold Easel makes for a great display card!

This Z Fold Easel Card is created from two card bases which are adhered together. The card base that forms the Z Fold measures 11″ x 4-1/4″ and is scored at 2-3/4″ and 5-1/2″. The second card base which gets mounted to the large section of the first card base measures 10-1/2″ x 4″ and is scored in half at 5-1/4″. This second card base is adhered to the larger card base to form the Z fold easel. The second card base gets most of the love decoration-wise!

You can find detailed instructions and measurements on the linked pdf tutorial below. For now, I’ll share the basics with you.

To decorate the front of the smaller card base I first embossed a white panel using the Eyelet 3D Embossing folder. This panel was then matted to a piece of Summer Splash cardstock, then adhered to the front of the smaller Pool Party card front. The Country Birdhouse Dies were used to cut out all of the pieces for the birdhouse and I used the smallest circle die from the Stylish Shapes Dies to cut out the birdhouse opening. I assembled the birdhouse roof pieces onto the body of the birdhouse. Check out the stamped detail on the scalloped roof and the copper roof top!

The flowers and leaves were also cut using the Country Birdhouse Dies. I gave the flowers a distressed look by cutting the flowers from white card stock then coloring the flowers with a Petunia Pop Stampin’ Blend. I then used a Stampin’ Blend Color Lifter to lighten the petals of the flowers. This gave them a dusty, distressed look…kind of like fading blooms in the hot summer heat. The flowers and leaves were adhered to the lower left of the birdhouse then the birdhouse unit was adhered to the small card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The small flower stamps from the Country Birdhouse Stamp Set were used to stamp multiple flowers onto the inside panel in Petunia Pop ink. I used a Stampin’ Blend in Petunia Pop to color in the flowers and used the Color Lifter to lighten some of the petals. The flower centers were colored in with a Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blend. This panel was then adhered to the inside of the smaller card base (the same one decorated with the birdhouse).

On the larger card base, a piece of Country Woods Designer Series Paper in a Crumb Cake woodgrain print was adhered to the bottom, smaller panel. The large card base was fully flattened onto my work surface with the bottom smaller section facing me. Then the smaller card base was adhered to the top section of the large card base.

From the photo below you can see that the sentiment label was adhered to the bottom of the larger card base. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop up the sentiment as the sentiment label will act as the “stop” for the easel portion of the card.

Here is another side view of the card with the front of the smaller card base seated under the top of the sentiment label on the larger card base. This fun fold makes for a perfect display card!

For some final touches to the card I adhered a yellow Loose Frosted Dot to each of the flower centers. I used a short length of black Baker’s Twine and tucked the ends under the top of the birdhouse to create a hanger. The envelope front was decorated with the same small, stamped flowers and a coordinating piece of designer series paper was adhered to the envelope flap with the excess paper trimmed away from the flap.

I have never seen a fun fold quite like this one and I wanted to share it with you. I hope you enjoyed the project! If you would like to recreate this card for yourself you can download, save and print the pdf tutorial by clicking on the image below. Enjoy!
