I used the beautiful Spotlight on Nature Stamp Set to create today’s card. This card uses multiple techniques including heat embossing, watercolor and ink splatter and I had loads of fun creating this card. I used regular cardstock for the embossed and water colored panel. Provided you don’t saturate the cardstock panel with too much water and avoid scrubbing the panel while it is wet, the cardstock holds up just fine.
I first heat embossed the flower and butterfly images using VersaMark ink and black embossing powder. The embossing powder was set using a Heat Tool. I then used Petunia Pop, Granny Apple Green and Pumpkin Pie inks to watercolor the images using a small watercolor brush. Once the panel was dry, I came back with a light wash of Balmy Blue for the sky and Granny Apple Green for the ground. These washes were kept very loose and were painted around the previously painted images. I then used Petunia Pop and Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends to splatter ink across the panel.

The panel was adhered to a Basic Black mat, then I wrapped a length of Iridescent Striped Trim around the lower third of the panel and tied a knot. Before adhering the panel to the card front, I used the crosshatch image from the Spotlight on Nature Stamp Set to stamp this image around the perimeter of the card front using Balmy Blue ink. The panel was then adhered to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The sentiment was stamped onto a white sentiment label in Balmy Blue ink and adhered to a Basic Black mat, then adhered to the lower right of the card front using liquid glue.
For the inside of the card I fully opened up the card base and masked off the left side of the card using Post It Tape. I stamped the crosshatch image all around the edges of the right side of the card base in Balmy Blue ink. The inside panel was stamped with the “thanks” sentiment in Balmy Blue ink then adhered to a Basic Black mat, then adhered to the inside of the card.

On the envelope front and envelope flap, I stamped the butterfly image in Tuxedo Black Memento ink. The butterfly images were colored in using a Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blend. The dotted stamp from the Spotlight on Nature Stamp Set was used to stamp dots around the butterflies in Petunia Pop ink. The butterfly on the card front and the butterflies on the envelope were dusted with Wink of Stella to add a little sparkle. To finish up the card I adhered three Flat Adhesive-Backed Pearls to the card front.

Which technique is your favorite? Embossing, water coloring or ink splattering? I think the black embossing with the watercolor in the background really brings this pretty flower and butterfly front and center! The embossing and water coloring takes a bit of time but is so worth it! If you would like to recreate this card you can download, save and print the pdf tutorial by clicking on the image below.
