Stampin’ Up! Carousel Horses Birthday Card

Today’s card was created using the Carousel Horses Bundle and the Hello Irresistible 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. The Carousel Horses Bundle is available in the 2023-2024 Annual Catalog, and you can find the Hello Irresistible Designer Series Paper in the Online Store under the Online Exclusives section.

A short trip down memory lane…

Using the Carousel Horses Bundle and creating this card really took me down memory lane. As a young child my family and I would visit Lenape Park. Lenape Park was established in the late 1800’s. It was initially a picnic area complete with an open-air dance floor, and later developed into a small amusement park. The park was situated along the Brandywine River in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Lenape Park boasted a wooden roller coaster, bumper cars and a spectacular and grand merry-go-round! The merry-go-round at Lenape was magical!

The merry-go-round was massive and had 52 hand-carved animals which were created by the Dentzel Carousel Company out of Philadelpha. The music for the merry-go-round was provided by a Wurlitzer Band Organ. There was a point on the merry-go-round where you could catch brass rings as you spun around which was great fun! I believe I still have a brass ring from this merry-go-round somewhere around the house! Such great memories!

Back to the card…

I started off with a panel of the Hello Irresistible Designer Series paper in a Pretty Peacock print and matted this to a piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock. The small flower image was used to stamp flowers around the edges of the upper two thirds of the designer series paper panel.

The Carousel Horses Dies were used to cut out the carousel from Distressed Gold Specialty Paper. I also stamped the two smaller carousel horses onto a piece of white cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento ink. The saddles were stamped onto the horses in Pecan Pie ink. One horse was colored in using Pool Party Stampin’ Blends and the other horse was colored in with Bubble Bath Stampin’ Blends. The manes and tales of the horses were colored in using Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends. The coordinating dies were then used to cut out the horses. The sentiment banner and sentiment were stamped onto a scrap piece of white cardstock and also cut out using the Carousel Horses Dies.

The main structure of the carousel was adhered to the upper part of the designer series paper panel using liquid glue and the horses were adhered on either side of the center pole. The decorative top and bottom of the carousel were adhered using Stampin’ Dimensionals and the sentiment banner was adhered just under the carousel using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The panel was then adhered to the front of a Pool Party card base.

On the inside panel I stamped an additional sentiment in Pretty Peacock ink. The image of one of the horses was stamped onto the lower corner of the panel in Tuxedo Black Memento ink with the saddle stamped in Pecan Pie. I used Pool Party and Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends to color in the horse image. Small flowers were stamped around the horse in Pretty Peacock ink. The panel was adhered to a Pretty Peacock mat then adhered to the inside of the card base.

I repeated stamping of one of the smaller horses onto the envelope front and colored this horse in using Crumb Cake and Bubble Bath Stampin’ Blends. A piece of coordinating designer series paper was adhered to the envelope flap, and I used my paper snips to trim the excess paper away from the flap. Pretty Peacock Adhesive-Backed Sequins were used to decorate the carousel on the card front to finish up this project!

A young girl or boy (change up the colors for the boys) would be delighted to receive this card…and I can think of a few adults who would appreciate it as well! This is such a whimsical and fun set!
