Stampin’ Up! Sketched Butterflies Thank You Card with Iris Paper Folding (Example No. 2)

As I promised yesterday on my blog, here is another example of Iris Paper Folding using a non-traditional shape. Today’s card uses the Sketched Butterflies Bundle and the Unbounded Beauty 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper. If you didn’t catch my blog post yesterday, you can view a couple of instructional videos by Christine’s Crafts You Tube channel on Iris Paper Folding. You can find her video on creating a template by clicking here. For her instructions on how to complete a project, click here. Of course, the linked pdf tutorial below also provides complete instructions on this technique.

The “Thank you” sentiment from the Sketched Butterflies Stamp Set was stamped onto the lower right corner of a 5-1/4″ x 4″ white panel in Petunia Pop ink. Then, the medium sized outline die from the Sketched Butterflies Dies was placed onto the center of this panel and die cut. The panel was then placed face down on top of a piece of copy paper and I traced the outline of the butterfly onto the copy paper. The cardstock panel was removed, and I used a ruler and pen to create the Iris Paper Folding template on the copy paper. You can view instructions for creating the template by clicking here. I also include these instructions in the pdf tutorial. To view instructions for completing the Iris Paper Folding pattern, click here.

Once the paper-pieced butterfly was completed, I cut a 1/16″ strip of black cardstock and cut two 1″ lengths to create the butterfly’s antenna. Three small, detailed butterflies were die cut from scraps of the designer series paper I used to create the Iris Paper Folding butterfly. These were added to the card front using a small amount of liquid glue. The white panel needed a little extra something so I used Pretty in Pink and Petunia Pop Stampin’ Blends to splatter ink across the panel. I protected the center butterfly pattern with the die cut of the butterfly before adding the ink splatter. The panel was then adhered to a black mat using a double stack of Stampin’ Dimensionals. then the whole unit was adhered to the front of a Petunia Pop card base.

On the inside panel, I stamped the medium sized butterfly image in Petunia Pop ink and I used the light shades of Peach Pie and Petunia Pop Stampin’ Blends to color in the image. The panel was adhered to a black mat then adhered to the inside of the card.

The same butterfly image was stamped onto the envelope front and colored in with Stampin’ Blends. I added a piece of coordinating designer series paper to the envelope flap and used a pair of paper snips to trim the excess paper away from the flap. To finish up the card I added three purple Rainbow Adhesive-Backed Dots to the front of the card.

I had so much fun creating these cards using the Iris Paper Folding technique! I hope you enjoyed them as well! If you would like to recreate this card you can download, save and print the pdf tutorial by clicking on the image below. Enjoy!
