Inky Bee Stampers

I have been wanting to try a Faux Shutter card and here it is! I love the look of this card. It looks complicated but it is so easy to create! I would like to give a shout out to Christine with Mail Something Pretty for the easy-to-follow directions! You can find Christine’s video on her YouTube channel. Christine’s instructions result in very little paper waste! We all love to conserve our pretty paper!

I selected the Winter Meadow 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper to showcase on this card with accents in Pretty Peacock (my new fave!). I started off with a Basic White panel measuring 5″ x 3-3/4″. The center square, cardstock strips and pieces of designer series paper will all be glued down to this base panel. I located the center of each side of the panel and drew a line across both sides of the panel at the center marks. This will help you get your starting square centered and you will not see the lines once all of the pieces are adhered down to the panel.

I provide all of the cutting instructions in the linked pdf tutorial below. But essentially, this is how the pieces go together.

I used the Distressed Tile 3D Embossing Folder to emboss the white center square for the card. This embossing folder provided so much texture and adds interest to the card. For the cardstock strips on the card I selected Pretty Peacock. Then I selected four different patterns from the Winter Meadow 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper. When creating this card I selected a fairly dark cardstock for the 1/4″ strips so that the faux shutter design would really pop!

Once all of the pieces were adhered to the 5″ x 3-3/4″ panel, I used my paper trimmer to trim away the excess paper. The first side is a little tricky to trim, but once you have trimmed the first edge, it goes a lot quicker. The panel was then adhered to a Basic White mat measuring 5-1/4″ x 4″. I wrapped a length of Silver & White Sheer Ribbon around the center of the panel horizontally and secured the ends on the back of the card using a small amount of Stampin’ Seal. The faux shutter panel was then adhered to the front of a Pretty Peacock card base.

The “Winter Wishes” sentiment was stamped onto a white sentiment label and I adhered the label to a Pretty Peacock mat. The sentiment label was adhered to the right center of the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals. A Silver & White Sheer Ribbon bow was adhered just to the left of the sentiment label using a Mini Glue Dot. I die cut one greenery sprig from the Magical Meadow Dies in Pretty Peacock and this sprig was tucked under the top left corner of the sentiment label.

The distressed pine tree image from the Magical Meadow Stamp Set was second-generation stamped onto the inside panel in Pretty Peacock ink. The panel was then adhered to the inside of the card.

The same pine tree image was second-generation stamped onto the envelope front as well. A piece of coordinating designer series paper was adhered to the envelope flap and I used my paper snips to trim the excess paper away from the flap. Lastly, several Iridescent Rhinestones were adhered to the card front.

I’m so happy that I gave this card a try! This came together very quickly, too! It is a great card style to showcase pretty paper. If you would like to recreate this card you can download, save, and print the pdf tutorial linked below.
