Stampin’ Up! Shepherd’s Care Bookmark

If you are looking for a quick project that would make an excellent small holiday gift for book lovers…look no further! This bookmark came together quickly and is a well-suited project for making multiples at one time. The project involves ink blending, heat embossing and a small amount of coloring.

I started off with an 8″ x 2-1/4″ piece of Basic White Thick cardstock. Beginning at the top of the bookmark, I used a Blending Brush to blend Night of Navy ink approximately 1-1/4″ down, then I switched to Misty Moonlight ink, making sure to blend the Misty Moonlight and Night of Navy sections together for a smooth transition. I switched over to Highland Heather ink…and a fresh Blending Brush…and blended this ink around the middle of the bookmark. I was careful to leave some white space and very lightly blended areas on the left since the Shepherd image will sit here. A small section of Crumb Cake ink was blended below the Highland Heather ink, and I finished off the bottom of the bookmark by blending Copper Clay ink.

The “Peace on Earth” sentiment from the Shepherd’s Care Stamp Set was stamped in Night of Navy ink across the bottom of the bookmark. I then stamped the Shepherd and lamb image on the left of the bookmark and just above the sentiment in Smoky Slate ink. The Shepherd’s head covering was colored using the light shade of a Misty Moonlight Stampin’ Blend and then I lifted some of the highlights using a Color Lifter Stampin’ Blend. The ground beneath the Shepherd and lamb was colored in using the light shade of a Copper Clay Stampin’ Blend. I used a fine tip black marker to dot in the lamb’s eyes and noses and a white gel pen to lighten the headband and the tops of the lamb’s heads. I also used the white gel pen to dot in some stars above the embossed star.

VersaMark ink was used to stamp the star image onto the upper right of the bookmark, and I sprinkled this area with Silver Embossing Powder, then I set the embossing powder using a Heat Tool. An 8″ x 2-1/4″ piece of Night of Navy cardstock was adhered to the back of the bookmark using liquid glue. The extra layer of cardstock gives the bookmark some added sturdiness and hides the marker bleed through from the Stampin’ Blends. I used a corner round punch (purchased on Amazon) to round the four corners and an 1/8″ hole punch (also purchased on Amazon) to punch a hole at the top of the bookmark. Three lengths of Night of Navy Natural Tones Linen Thread was looped through the hole with a knot tied at the top. I used the Blending Brushes in Night of Navy and Copper Clay to carefully darken the edges of the white cardstock to complete the project.

I will be making more of these bookmarks in the coming weeks as gifts! If you would like to recreate this bookmark you will find detailed instructions on the linked pdf tutorial. Click on the image below to download, save and print the tutorial. Happy crafting!
