Stampin’ Up! Desert Details Friendship Card for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Happy New Year! It’s Thursday and time for another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop! Are you ready to hop around and see some great projects?

I created my card for today using the Desert Details Stamp Set, Desert Details Dies and the gorgeous Dry Brushed Metallic 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper. And, this paper is truly gorgeous! As of today, these products are now available for customer orders from the January-April 2023 Mini Catalog! Yay!

The theme for today’s hop is a sketch challenge!

I started off with a card base in Soft Succulent measuring 11″ x 4-1/4 and scored at 5-1/2″. Usually, this card cut is presented as a top fold easel card, but I chose to turn my card base to landscape for a different look. I used a panel of the Dry Brushed Metallic 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper and matted this panel to a piece of Pale Papaya cardstock. The specialty paper is in soft succulent, blue and copper and so, so pretty! The panel was then adhered to the card front.

Next, I stamped the large desert flower from the Desert Details Stamp Set in Soft Succulent onto a piece of white cardstock. I used Pale Papaya Stampin’ Blends to shade all of the white areas on the flower, then used a Stampin’ Blend Color Lifter to smooth the color out. I then used Soft Succulent Stampin’ Blends to deepen the shadows on the flower blossom. The stamped flower image was die cut using the coordinating die from the Desert Details Dies set and I also cut a grass from Soft Succulent cardstock.

The die cut grass was partially adhered to the back of the flower. A short length of Pale Papaya Faux Velvet Trim was also adhered to the back of the flower. The grass sits at the top of the flower and is angled to the right of the flower and the trim is angled slightly to the left. I adhered these pieces to the flower first to assist with dimensional placement. I placed Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the flower unit, then adhered this unit to the card front, placing it towards the middle right.

I used a sentiment label in Soft Succulent and stamped a sentiment from the Desert Details Stamp Set in Soft Succulent ink. The sentiment label was then adhered to a mat in Pale Papaya then added to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The sentiment label sits slightly over the bottom of the flower and overhangs the metallic panel on the right.

On the inside panel I stamped the same large desert flower towards the bottom of the panel in Soft Succulent ink and used the same Stampin’ Blends to color the flower. The panel was then adhered to a Pale Papaya mat and this unit was adhered to the inside of the card.

The same flower was stamped onto the envelope front and colored and a piece of coordinating Dry Brushed Metallic Specialty Designer Series Paper was adhered to the envelope flap. I trimmed the excess paper away from the flap to finish off the envelope.

Several Calypso Coral Iridescent Pastel Gems were added to the card front to complete the card! I think the Dry Brushed Metallic Specialty Designer Series Paper adds an extra “something” to the card.

  1. The shading on your desert flower proves that not only are you an excellent card maker, but an artist as well. TFS.
